The University Computing Center (SRCE) was founded in 1972. While it is the oldest infrastructural institution of the academic and research community in the area of application of information and communication technologies (ICT), SRCE is still one of the key subjects in planning, designing, construction and maintainance of the newest computing, communication and information infrastructure (e-infrastructure). SRCE continuously maintains stable, reliable and high quality operations of the present e-infrastructure and central systems which support it, ensures connection among Croatian academic e-infrastructure with the related European and global e-infrastructure and gives practical, consulting and educational support to the members of the academic and research community in using ICT and acts as the computing centre of the largest university in Croatia – the University of Zagreb.
Mission of SRCE

- by implementing the newest information and communication technologies,
- by quality system support to students, professors and scientists in the use of these technologies, and
- by collecting and sharing expert knowledge
has a leading role in the academic community in establishing an information society in the Republic of Croatia.
Main functions of SRCE
Starting from actual user needs, the current situation in the environment, and its position, the main functions of SRCE are the following:
- center of information infrastructure of the scientific and the higher education system,
- expert center for ICT,
- center for education and support in the area of ICT application.
Activities of SRCE
Statute defines the following activities of SRCE:
- designing, construction and maintainance of informaton, communication and computing infrastructure,
- designing, construction and maintainance of computing and communication networks, especially the Croatian academic and research network CARNet,
- setting up and maintainance of computing systems, including special purpose systems,
- designing, construction and maintainance of information and application systems for the academic and research community,
- providing IT support in construction and maintainance of information systems and services,
- promoting IT knowledge in Croatia and worldwide by organizing conferences and other educational and professional events,
- promoting IT knowledge by organizing professional conferences and debates and publishing manuals, books and journals in electronic and other forms,
- preparing, organizing and managing general and specialized educational programs, courses and workshops related to information and communication technologies and related areas,
- increasing the level of IT competencies by organizing computing workshops and summer schools,
- research and development projects in the area of information, communication and IT technology, computing and information sciences,
- consulting and expert assistance and support in applying information, communication and computing technologies.
It is important to stress that all activities of SRCE fulfill only the aims which arise from the requirements and needs of users of SRCE. All results of SRCE activities are and have to be accessible to all members of the academic community who need its products and services.
Task of SRCE
The Task of SRCE is to ensure through its activities a stable, reliable, quality and advanced information infrastructure for the needs of the Croatian academic community, and to give efficient support available to everyone using this infrastructure and ICT in general.
In order to accomplish its task, SRCE encourages intensive cooperation with all the institutions involved in the field of establishing information infrastructure and using ICT in the Republic of Croatia, and it especially encourages cooperation with the Ministry of Science, Education and Sports (before Croatian Ministry of Science and Technology) and with the Croatian Academic and Research Network - CARNet.
