The Reference Center for the development of University Computing Center Web applications deals with the research of possibilities and use of adequate Network Technologies in the development of new applications for user's needs.
Users of the Reference Center are primarily institutions from the Croatian academic and research community.
The main activities of the Reference Center for Web applications include testing of possibilities of Network Technologies and development of particular Web applications.
The goals of the Reference Center are:
- improvement of the system for measuring Web space and execution of new measures,
- testing the possibility of developing a system for tracking and archiving Web publications,
- testing the possibility of developing a server for searching the information space,
- testing the possibility of using caching on servers of institutions connected to CARNet network,
- building and servicing a remailer system for the needs of SRCE, and
- carrying out a survey of available Network Technologies for setting up databases on the Internet.
Reference Center for development of Web publications cooperates with the National and University Library in the development of a system for tracking and archiving Web publications.
About the first measurement of Croatian Web space:
From March 29 to May 7 2002, a team of experts from the University Computing Center performed the first Web space measurement with the goal of gathering information on the size and contents of the Croatian Web space.
